Account types

Every Avaloi account is Individual, Business, or Enterprise. Learn what each one has, which plans it buys, and why Enterprise is custom.

Every account has one of three types. The type decides which plans you can buy, whether the account has company settings, and whether single sign-on (SSO) is available.

The stored type for a business is agency. The dashboard and this article call it Business.

Individual

Your sign-up account is an individual account. It has every feature and no company settings. You can use it alone, and you never have to create a business. You can create a business from the workspace menu at any time. See Set up your company.

Business

A business is a team workspace. It has members, invitations, company settings, and an Owner. The person who creates a business becomes its Owner. Business plans are sold from the business price list, not the individual one.

Enterprise

Enterprise is custom. Sales agrees the terms, the limits, and single sign-on with you. There is no self-serve checkout, so the billing page says Contact sales where a plan would be.

Avaloi staff set an account to Enterprise after sales agrees the terms. You cannot change your own account to Enterprise from the dashboard or the API. Single sign-on is set up for Enterprise accounts only. See SSO.

Quick answers

Can I upgrade my individual account to Enterprise myself? No. Contact sales. Staff make the change after the terms are agreed.

Why can I not see SSO? SSO is for Enterprise accounts only. Individual and Business accounts do not have it.

Why does the billing page say Contact sales? Enterprise plans are custom and have no self-serve price. Sales quotes them.

Which plans can an individual buy? Starter and Pro. A business buys from the business plans. The plan list on the billing page shows only the plans for your account.

Can a business create another business? No. Only an individual account creates a business. Switch to your individual account first.

API

  • GET /v1/users/me (returns the account type of the workspace you are in)
  • POST /v1/companies (an individual creates a business; account_type is agency)
  • GET /v1/billing/plans (the plan list for the account type you are in)
  • GET /v1/companies/me/sso (refused unless the account is Enterprise)
