Payment methods

Add a card on Avaloi's own page, choose the default card, and remove a card you no longer use.

Saved cards pay for every plan and invoice on the account. The default card is charged for renewals. Owners, Admins, and Billing members can manage cards; other roles cannot see them.

Open Settings, then Payment methods. The Billing page has the same list on its Payment methods tab.

Add a card

  1. Select Add payment method. In the Start a plan modal, select Add new card instead.
  2. Type the Card holder name.
  3. Type the card number, expiry, and security code into the card fields. These fields belong to Stripe: the number goes from your browser straight to Stripe, and Avaloi only ever sees the brand, the last four digits, and the expiry.
  4. Tick Set this card as default if renewals should use it. Your first card is the default either way.
  5. Select Add card.

Stripe may place a small temporary hold on the card to check that it works. The hold goes away on its own and is never charged. If your bank asks you to confirm the card, its check opens in the page.

Change the default card

Select Set as default on the card. The Default marker moves to it, and the next renewal is charged to it.

Remove a card

Select Remove on the card and confirm. When you remove the default card and another card is saved, that other card becomes the default.

You cannot remove your only card while a plan is active, because renewals would have nothing to charge. Add another card first, then remove the old one.

When card entry is not available

If the form says Card entry is not configured on this server, the dashboard was built without Stripe's publishable key. Ask an administrator to set NEXT_PUBLIC_STRIPE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY for the dashboard build. Nothing was saved or charged.

For scripts and agents

  • GET /v1/billing/payment-methods lists the cards with brand, last4, exp_month, exp_year, and default.
  • POST /v1/billing/payment-methods/{id}/default makes a card the default.
  • DELETE /v1/billing/payment-methods/{id}?confirm=true removes a card. It answers 409 with the code last_payment_method for the only card while a plan is active.
  • Adding a card needs a person at the card fields, so POST /v1/billing/setup-intents and POST /v1/billing/payment-methods work only from a signed-in dashboard session, never with an API key.

Quick answers

Does Avaloi store my card number? No. Stripe keeps the card. Avaloi stores the brand, the last four digits, and the expiry.

Why was my card declined when I added it? Your bank refused the check. Try another card, or ask your bank why.

Can a Developer add a card? No. Only Owners, Admins, and Billing members manage billing.
