Connected accounts
Sign up and sign in with Google or GitHub, connect or disconnect them in Account settings, and keep at least one way to sign in.
You can create an account and sign in with Google or GitHub. A person with an Avaloi account can connect either one to it, or disconnect it, under Account settings, then Security, then Connected accounts.
What Avaloi asks the provider for
Avaloi asks Google and GitHub for your name and your email address, and nothing else. These sign-in connections are separate from the GitHub connection you use to deploy code. Connecting a repository never changes how you sign in.
Your email must be verified
Avaloi creates an account from Google or GitHub only when the provider says your email address is verified. If it does not, sign-in stops with a message, and no account is made. Verify the address with the provider and try again, or sign up with a password.
One address, one account
If you already have an Avaloi account and sign in with a provider whose verified email is the same, Avaloi connects the two accounts. It does this only when your Avaloi email is verified too. An account made with a password and never verified is not joined to a provider account, so nobody can take over an address by signing up with it first.
Connect an account
- Open Account settings, then Security.
- Under Connected accounts, choose Connect next to Google or GitHub.
- Approve the request at the provider. The email there must match your Avaloi email.
Disconnect an account
Choose Disconnect and confirm. Avaloi signs out your other sessions and emails you a notice. You cannot disconnect your only way to sign in. Create a password first, or connect another account.
Create a password after you sign up
If you signed up with Google or GitHub, Avaloi suggests a password. You can skip it, and the suggestion comes back as a banner until you create one or skip. See Sign in and passwords.
If a button is missing
Avaloi shows a button only for a provider it is set up with. If the Google or GitHub button is missing on your sign-in page, that provider is not turned on for this installation. Ask your administrator.
Two-factor with Google or GitHub
When you sign in with a provider, the provider's own two-step verification applies. Avaloi's second step applies to password sign-in. See Two-factor authentication.
Quick answers
I signed in with GitHub and got "account not linked". The email on GitHub matches an Avaloi account that has not verified its email. Open the verification email for that account first, or sign in with the password.
Can I connect a GitHub account with a different email? No. The provider email must match your Avaloi email.
